Nursing Unit

The department is very large in terms of human resources and placement, the department constitute one third of the entire workforce of the hospital.

ADMINISTRATION

The department has a head also known as the Apex Chief Nursing officer in person of MRS. SHODE M. J.

She is ably supported by Nurse Administrators that control, co-ordinate, direct and organize the department effectively, they are:

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

To provide effective and efficient Qualitative Nursing Care in order to bring Nursing Services to International Professional Standard and enhance development of good Nursing Skills by maintaining Nursing Ethics and Code of Conduct.

DEPARTMENTALIZATION

This was done for easy communication flow, effective delegation, efficient control and supervision.

The departments are headed by a Senior Nurse as follows:

SERVICES PROVIDED

The department run a 24 hours duty, two duties system named BI DUTY.

8.00 A.M. - 4.00 P.M. 4.00 P.M. - 8.00 A.M.

Counseling, Health Education, Family Assessment in Family Medicine Clinic,

Client Oriented Care are amongst few services provided in LASUTH.

CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION

This programme is BI weekly and each of the Nursing departments present paper on relevant and current topics including Nursing Care plan. After each presentation, questions and answers session follows and evaluation/over view of the presentation is done by the Apex CNO or CNO i/c of CNE.

NURSING EDUCATION UNIT

The Unit was established few months ago and the objectives are as follows:

•  DEVELOPMENT OF EUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES FOR THE NURSING

PERSONNELS.

•  ORGANIZING SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS

•  INDUCTION AND ORIENTATION OF NEWLY EMPLOYED NURSES

•  INDUCTION OF NURSES AFTER SPECIAL TRAINING OR POST BASIC TRAINING.

•  CONDUCTING NURSING RESEARCH

•  FOR EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT NURSING

•  TO UPDATE THE KNOWLEDGE OF NURSES IN MODERN SKILLS AND TECHNOLOGY.

OUR SET TARGETS

Our target is to accomplish our mission statement and bring Nursing Services to International standard.

•  Computerization of all Nursing activities on the wards – to store our records.

Update our care and monitor our patients progress.

•  Proper taking and handing over of our patients through promptness at work which can only be made possible with provision of staff but for Nurses who are living very far from LASUTH about 75% of the Nurses.

•  Need for more Nursing personnel for effective and quality Nursing Care.

•  PARTICIPATION OF NURSES IN SUCCESSFUL HEALTH PROJECT OF LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT/MINISTRY OF HEALTH, I.E. FREE EYE SURGERY/TEST, OPERATION SMILE, CORRECTIVE LIMB SURGERY, OPEN HEART SURGERY, BURN & PLASTIC NURSING.

•  ESTABLISHMENT OF NURSING EDUCATION UNIT.

•  SUCCESSFUL LASUTH NURSES DAYS CELEBRATION.

•  INAGURATION OF THE FOLLOWINGS WITHIN THE DEPT.
