Neurosurgical Unit

Our busy practice includes management of brain injuries, spinal injuries, brain tumours, spinal cord tumours, congenital disorders including hydrocephalus, neural tube defects and craniosynostosis. The service is complemented by an onsite MRI unit, multislice CT scanner, intraoperative fluoroscopy, facilities for spinal fusion, and endoscopic brain/spinal surgery (Minimally invasive neuroendoscopy).

Training- Residents are trained here in all aspects of neurosurgery, with particular emphasis on disorders common in a developing world context.

Research - We have ongoing active researches on conditions common to children in a developing world environment. These include congenital anomalies, head injury, brain infections, brain tumours, and many others. We are constantly seeking to improve our understanding of these complex disorders and advance the methods that we have available to treat more effectively.

Clinic- This is conducted weekly on Mondays 09.00hours- 14.00hours, and special arrangement is available for consultation on other days by contacting the departmental secretary.

Mondays Ward Round- 7.30am; Clinic- 9.00am; Pre-op round- 4.00pm

Tuesdays Ward Round- 7.30am; Theatre- 8.00am; Bedside teaching- 3.00pm

Wednesdays Ward Round- 7.30am; Research meeting- 10.00am; Grand round- 11.00am; Morbidity/Mortality meeting- 3.00pm

Thursdays Ward Round- 7.30am, Consultant round- 9.00am; Clinical presentation- 12.00noon

Friday Ward Round- 7.30am, Bedside teaching- 10.00am

Saturday Ward Round- 8.00am

Sunday Ward Round- 8.00am
