Ear, Nose and Throat Unit was set up by Dr. Nelson Idowu Daniel FRCS with a nursing sister Matron Ogunsuada in 1984. In 1987 the team was joined by Dr Amosu M.O M.D, Phd Otorhinolaryngology as a senior Registrar and Dr Odubiyi M D as the Senior Medical Officer. In 1988 Dr Daniel went on voluntary retirement and Dr Fawehinmi FRCS was seconded from General Hospital Lagos to head the unit, the post he held till the time of voluntary retirement in 1997. From 1997 Dr Amosu M.O. took over the headship of the unit. With Dr Odubiyi as the Registrar. Along the line, we have our dedicated nursing Staff Matron CNO Odubela, ACNO Ahmed, CNO Bashua, CNO Bashua-Alimi and PNO Abiodun-Ajayi who were keeping the unit going. It is our joy and pride that they have all undergone their professional E.N.T. Nursing Training and were successful and have all been promoted to higher nursing grades. In the year 2000 after the completion of Diploma Training in Otorhinolayugology from University of Ghana a programme organized by WACS, Dr Odubiyi was posted to General Hospital Orile Agege to set up an E.N.T Clinic in the secondary medical institution. As at today the ENT unit of former Ikeja General Hospital which is now E.N.T. Unit LASUTH has grown from a one man unit to a unit that can boast of 3 ENT consultants (Dr Amosu M.O, HOD; Dr Olubi FWACS ; Dr Adekoya FWACS, FMCCR ) with each consultant showing interest in specialized areas of ENT Surgery; Four trained ENT Nurses including Chief Nursing Officer to Matrons cadres and an Audiologist for Audiological management of patient with impaired hearing. ENT unit LASUTH offers full ENT management services from surgery to conservative. With the exception of micro ENT surgery, all other aspect of ENT surgery are well managed and we have been contributing greatly to the achievement of LASUTH Mission Statement. The unit also takes active participation in the Educational Programme of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital both departmentally and ground rounds. |
